LEGO Skyline Created on New York’s High Line

Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson has created an open-air installation of white LEGO bricks that features a collaborative cityscape designed by the public, as well as architects Annabelle Selldorf, Renzo Piano’s Building Workshop, Robert A. M. Stern, amongst other firms. The urban renewal project hopes to provide commentary on the current state of development throughout the city. “The Collectivity Project” will be on display May 29 – September 30 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, on the High Line at West 30th Street in New York.

Take a Look at Supreme’s Limited Edition 35th Anniversary i-D Magazine Cover

i-D Magazine is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year and presents a range of 18 covers for the special occasion. Today we come across a limited edition collector’s cover by Supreme for i-D. It features none other than Slick Rick, whom Supreme collaborated with in 2007. The cover design is oldschool, matching the aesthetic of the photograph used. Furthermore the cover received a bold Supreme red box logo treatment running along the side. Good luck getting your hands on one of these.

Nike Is the Most Valuable Apparel Brand in the World

For the 10th time Millward Brown ranked the most valuable brands in the world. Of course technology firms are leading the list with Apple having taking over Google again this year on the number one spot. Take a look at the Top 10 Most Valuable Brands 2015 here below:

1. Apple
2. Google
3. Microsoft
4. IBM
5. VISA
6. AT&T
7. Verizon
8. Coca-Cola
9. McDonald’s
10. Marlboro

There are not many surprises here with big American brands leading the rankings. We of course took a closer look at the apparel and fashion brands included on the list and while the brands listed are no surprise, the rankings actually are. Nike is actually the No. 1 most valuable apparel brand. Not footwear brands or athletic apparel brand, but the leading apparel brand ahead of Zara, H&M, Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Gucci and Tommy Hilfiger. It also beat Louis Vuitton, Hermès, adidas and Lululemon, who also sit on the Top 10 apparel brand list. See the Top 5 Most Valuable Apparel Brands 2015 here below:

1. Nike
2. Louis Vuitton
3. Zara
4. Hermes
5. H&M

The shift in rankings and rise of Nike certainly underlines a general trend in the industry, the rise of athletic footwear and so called “athleisurewear.”

Be moved
A stand out moment of the last few days was the unscheduled conversation between friends Stephen Fry and pianist James Rhodes who discussed, with heartbreaking honesty, Rhodes’ childhood abuse and the aggressive litigation battle he had been forced to undergo for his autobiography Instrumental to be published. The final section of the talk in which Rhodes read out his searing, expletive ridden paean to true love left the room agape, and many in…

Skin Complexions and Styling

Skin Complexions and Styling

It’s really important when choosing what to wear that you are choosing not just what you like and want but also what works with your skin tone. Stylists spend time studying their client’s skin colour shade before styling them, and there’s a number of ways to identify which colours look best on you.
Firstly concentrate on the tones in your skin, in good daylight take a look at the veins on your wrist, they will either be a green tone or blue tone. If your veins are green you are a ‘warm’ skin type and if your veins show as blue you are a ‘cool’ skin type.

Skin Complexions and Styling

These are general guidelines but there can be further specific attributes to think of when you also bring eye and hair colour into the equation.

Skin Complexions and Styling

But that being said, generally those who fall under the ‘cool’ tone category are better suited to blues, purples, greens and silvers; and those who fall into the ‘warm’ category can wear reds, yellows, browns and golds. Whichever you fall into try to put the brighter colours at the top of an outfit as this is nearer the face and will best compliment your skin colour. Both tones come under four different categories: autumn, winter, spring and summer.

Autumn

This is a ‘warm’ shade so you’ll likely have golden skin with dark blonde, red or light brown hair with either blue or brown eyes. The best colours are earthy tones; beige, orange or golds as this will complement your skin complexion. The ones to avoid are bright or bold colours so white and black will only make you look washed out.

Skin Complexions and Styling

Winter

This is one of the ‘cool’ shades with more of a contrast between your skin, hair and eye colour. Stark dramatic skin types, particularly Asians, Africans, and Caucasians. Believe it or not, black is ultimately the best colour on those of a winter shade as it best compliments your features and complexion. It works best with bright whites, stark blacks, tonal greys, and deep colours such as red, navy and ‘cool’ toned pastels. Colours to avoid are any beiges, oranges, gold and brown as this will wash you out and essentially make your skin colour look dull.

Spring

The brighter of the ‘warm’ tones, so you’ll likely have auburn or strawberry blonde hair with pale skin (likely to burn easily in the sun). Pale colours work best for you such as ivory peach, blues, pinks, aqua and bright greens. But avoid bold colours as this will contrast too much, just like blacks and whites.

Skin Complexions and Styling

Summer

You’re a bright ‘cool’ skin tone with natural blonde or brown hair with blue eyes, and can tan easily. You’re best suited to neutral and pastel shades. Lilacs, light blues, and whites but avoid wearing black or stark colours such as oranges or yellows as this will drown out the brightness to your skin.
