“The brand and tonality was translated into visual form and matched with a custom-made display typeface, named Sentrum, made to suit the in-store signage. We added two eyelashes as a symbol to distinguish the identity as well as use as graphic elements for many different scenarios. We created the entire flagship store with shelving systems, signage, colors, murals, etc. The project ranged from typeface and still life photos to campaigns, fashion-photography, notebooks and towels.”

SNASK is a Brand, Design and Film agency situated in the heart of Stockholm. Their work is frequently internationally referenced and results in brand platforms, graphic identities, short films, handmade photo installations, communication strategies, design manuals, stop motions, TV commercials and carefully crafted corporate love-stories.

This DIY Centrifuge Costs $0.20 and Can Be Used for Medical Tests in Remote Locations

this-diy-centrifuge-can-be-used-for-medical-tests-in-remote-locations

At $0.20, ‘paperfuge’ is the cheapest and fastest hand-spun centrifuge ever designed — and can reach speeds up to 125,000 revolutions per minute. Made from cardboard, fishing wire and wood; 90 seconds of spinning is enough to separate a blood sample into red and white blood cells, platelets, and plasma.

A longer spin can separate the part of the blood needed for malaria testing. Nature Video reveals how this invention will allow basic diagnostic tests in areas without laboratory resources or electricity.

The paper has been published in Nature Biomedical Engineering. You can read it here: http://www.nature.com/articles/s41551-016-0009

An Animated Short on the Origin Story of “Fired Up, Ready to Go”

fired-up-ready-to-go-animated-speech

Fired Up is an animated short film that depicts the origin story of President Obama’s “Fired up, ready to go” chant.

On a rainy day in June of 2007, President Obama found himself speaking to a subdued crowd in the tiny town of Greenwood, SC. He was exhausted, soaking wet, and beginning to doubt the whole campaign when a voice called out from the back, “Fired up, ready to go!”. The chant, started by one unassuming woman in a church hat, transformed the audience and went on to become a rallying cry in every corner of America.

With the audio of President Obama’s speech as the soundtrack, the film combines original animation by 14 artists from around the world.

Directed and Produced by Dan Fipphen and Elyse Kelly

Animation directors (in order of appearance): Emily Eckstein & Ege Alper, Alex Silver, Lynn Tomlinson, Jovanna Tosello, The Duke & The Duck, Amy Lee Ketchum, Juan Camilo Gonzalez, Musa Brooker, Miguel Jiron, Sara Spink, Lou Morton, and Daniela Sherer.

Babylon FW17 Is Loaded With Badass Hardcore Graphics

Visit the original post to see all 6 images from this gallery.

We haven’t heard from Babylon LA since rapper and Donald Trump nemesis YG was seen stuntin’ in a mammoth apparel collection last November. The label returns for FW17, this time keeping things a little closer to home with a lookbook shot outside its bricks-and-mortar location.

The garb was snapped by Babylon associate Cedric Galloway, and incorporates yet another broad range of hoodies and T-shirts. Badass hardcore-inspired graphics feature heavily throughout, while another standout piece pays tribute to American folk singer Odetta — otherwise known as “The Voice of the Civil Rights Movement.”

Street Style Q&A With Skateboarding Legend Brian Anderson

Standing well over six feet tall, former professional skateboarder Brian Anderson is a larger-than-life figure in every sense of the term. Turning pro in 1998, the Connecticut native enjoyed an illustrious career, winning a Thrasher ‘Skater of the Year’ award and a World Cup of Skateboarding title.

It was away from the park that Anderson truly made his mark felt, however, having been involved in numerous extracurricular fields including art and fashion, where he walked the Paris runway for Adam Kimmel in 2012.

Last year, Anderson came out as gay, making him the first pro skater to ever do so publicly. In a sport that’s been dogged by accusations of homophobia over the years, Anderson’s decision was seen as a watershed moment. For many, his choice to speak up transcended skating, and has resonated with an audience on a wider national level. For this special Street Style segment, we caught up with the big man and asked his thoughts on his two life loves: skateboarding and fashion.

H: What do you think of fashion’s current obsession with skateboarding?

B: I think that we’ve always given things to each other. It’s good, skateboarding gives back to fashion and high-end labels will give back to skateboarding. I think it’s interesting. It’s nothing that upsets me. Some people think that when fashion “steals” from skateboarding it’s an issue, but we borrow from each other, so I think it’s all good.

H: Which independent skate brands are leading the way right now?

B: I love what Magenta and Skate Mental is doing. There are so many good things coming from Europe.

H: How do you feel about Nike’s rise in skateboarding?

B: i think it’s good. As I’ve said in so many other discussions, a lot of people that I work with work at Nike are people who skateboard. It doesn’t feel fake or forced in any way because everybody’s I work with is a skater. Everything gets big, and of course people are going to find difficulties with that, or disagreements, or be unhappy with it, but we all skate. I think it’s great. Everything gets big. I think people think too much about it. There’s nothing wrong with it and they support good people who do good things.

Calvin Harris Shares Teaser of Frank Ocean Collaboration

As we have noted, 2017 is shaping up to be a big year for music, perhaps even on par with last year. And if we needed any further proof that this year is going to be a hit-filled extravaganza, Calvin Harris has teased what can only be an impending collaboration with Frank Ocean. Listen to the brief snippet below.

— Frank Ocean (@IBoysDontCryCo) January 26, 2017

Appearing via Harris’ Instagram of all places, the mysterious song serves as the soundtrack to Harris driving around in the sunshine. Which funnily enough is the perfect visual accompaniment to a song that already feels destined to score each one of the wistful summer nights we have ahead of us. Each one of the Instagram videos Harris posted have now been taken down, and neither his nor Ocean’s team have confirmed any of the details, but it’s too late. The hype train has officially left the station.

Revisit the video for Frank Ocean’s “Nikes” below.

In other music news, Missy Elliott has surprised us all by dropping a new song and video for “I’m Better.” Watch it right here.
