Wintergatan (featured previously) has just completed the conveyor belt for their continually evolving musical masterpiece, Marble Machine X. The handmade music box powers a kick drum, bass, vibraphone and more using a hand crank and thousands of marbles.

Words don’t do Marble Machine X justice, it’s something you just have to watch. If you’re interested in learning about the build process and seeing the project come to fruition, be sure to follow their channel on YouTube for weekly updates!

After 7 years on the road, travelling on the back of a semi across 48 states, Idaho’s famous Big Potato has been put out to pasture on 400 acres of good ol’ Idaho farmland just south of downtown Boise.

Recycled from the Idaho Potato Commission’s “Big Idaho Potato Tour”, this 6-ton potato has been retrofitted into a hotel by Kristie Wolfe.

The hotel also features a retrofitted silo with a full bathroom, soaking tub, and fireplace! For information and booking check out the Big Idaho Potato Hotel on Airbnb

RESERVOIR (Ascesa) is an amazing installation by artist John Grade. The artwork was installed in 2018 at the Arte Sella Sculpture Park in Borgo Valsugana, Trento, Italy.

On his website’s project page, John adds:

Reservoir is made up of five thousand individually heat-formed, clear droplets framed in steam-bent wood. The delicate droplets are attached to a pair of clear filament nets that are supported by tree trunks above. As rainwater or snow accumulates in the droplets, the position and shape of the nets lower and change. As collected water evaporates, the sculpture rises back to its original configuration.

Sheathed springs below pulleys limit vertical range of motion so the sculpture remains at least ten feet above the ground. Even a very light rain creates enough downward movement to be comprehended visually by viewers below. When dry, the sculpture weighs 70 pounds. When filled by a heavy rainfall, the sculpture can exceed 800 pounds.

In a country that prides itself on the freshness of its food, Yoshimoto has set a new standard for readymade fare.
