Disney Might Stop Filming in Georgia Due to New Abortion Laws

Netflix isn’t the only company threatening to cease production in Georgia due to the state’s new anti-abortion law. Disney may also pull out of Georgia if such a law does indeed take effect.

Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke with Reuters during this week’s dedication for Disneyland’s new Star Wars theme park section, saying it will be “very difficult” for Disney to continue filming in Georgia, as many will not want to work in a state where abortion is illegal.

Georgia’s governor recently signed a law banning abortion following a doctor’s detection of a fetal heartbeat. If it survives court challenging, the law will go into effect on January 1.

“I rather doubt we will,” Iger told Reuters on the possibility of Disney continuing production in Georgia if the anti-abortion law passes. “I think many people who work for us will not want to work there, and we will have to heed their wishes in that regard. Right now we are watching it very carefully.”

“I don’t see how it’s practical for us to continue to shoot there,” he added.

In recent years, Disney has used Georgia to film such blockbuster movies as Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame. If the company does discontinue production in the state — as others have also hinted at doing so — it would be a major blow to Georgia’s film-related jobs.

Not least in the accessories: at Prada – always a barometer of the season – sandals came in a tech-y woven knit, like sports socks; at Dior, nude elastic-edged sandals evoked a…

Why We Still Chase the Teenage Thrill of an ‘Illicit’ Book

The Virgin Suicides, film still

If you, like me, were once a teenager who read a lot, you’ll understand the kind of book I’m about to talk about. It’s what some wary parents might call ‘not age-appropriate’. It’s definitely got some sex scenes. Probably some drugs, too. Maybe a breakdown. Its publication might have caused a controversy in the press. And by the time it got to your group of friends, it has itself quite the reputation.

At school my friends and I loved these books. They got passed around our…
